Abortion FAQs

Did You Know?
  • About 1 in 4 pregnancies end naturally1, so even with a positive test, you may not need an abortion.

  • The abortion pill is FDA-approved only through 10 weeks2, and counting from your last period isn’t always accurate.

A free ultrasound at Choices can confirm your pregnancy is progressing, date it accurately, and help you understand all your options safely.

  • Many women who've had abortions experienced subtle-to-significant pressure to make that choice. You have the right to decide the outcome of your pregnancy. No partner, boyfriend, spouse, or parent can legally force or coerce you into having a chemical or surgical abortion.

If you feel pressured or unsupported, whether about abortion or parenting, please reach out to our center to speak with an advocate who can explain your legal rights to you.

You have the legal right to make your own decision. No one should be making this choice for you.

No one can force you to have an abortion—not even your parents or the father of your baby. If you're feeling pressured (also known as coercion), you have options. Request an appointment to speak with a trained client consultant about your rights and choices.

If you're in immediate danger or concerned for your safety or your baby’s safety, call 911.

  • If you're considering abortion, your first step should be to book an appointment, get an ultrasound, and learn about your options and the procedure.

Before scheduling an abortion, an ultrasound will determine:

Whether your pregnancy is progressing: This is crucial in deciding which abortion method you may be eligible for. The procedure and costs depend on your health history and how far along your pregnancy is.

Whether your pregnancy is viable: The only way to confirm your pregnancy is progressing is through an ultrasound. Studies show that up to one in four pregnancies do not progress. Some women don’t realize they've had a miscarriage until it's detected in an ultrasound. If you have miscarried, you'll need follow-up care from a doctor.

  • The cost of an abortion depends on the procedure you can have and whether the abortion pill is available for your pregnancy stage. It can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Before making any abortion decision, it’s important to know how far along your pregnancy is. You can verify your pregnancy’s progression with an ultrasound at our center. While we do not perform or refer for abortions, we offer ultrasounds at no cost to you.

  • We offer free ultrasounds to eligible clients to determine if their pregnancy is viable and to assess the stage of fetal development. As a community-funded 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we do not financially benefit from your ultrasound or any decisions you make about your pregnancy.

One additional benefit of getting an ultrasound at our center is that, since there is no charge, none of the procedures will show up on your insurance or be billed to your account.

Your ultrasound information is completely confidential. We are here to support you as you consider your options in a safe, non-judgmental space.

Request a confidential appointment online, or call us. All after-hours requests will be contacted the following business day.

If you are experiencing symptoms like bleeding, spotting, or cramping, please seek immediate medical attention. These could be signs of a miscarriage, and you may need further medical care.

  • We do not offer or refer for abortions or birth control. We do offer all of the essential services needed before an abortion like pregnancy verification and ultrasounds.

We understand that figuring out your options can be overwhelming. If you're looking for a safe, confidential space to talk, schedule an appointment using the form below or send us a text. A nurse is available to chat with you 24/7, and no question is too difficult.
